Kuester Management Group Outlines Holiday Safety Tips for HOA Communities

Kuester Management Group shares important safety insight to keep families and homes safer this holiday season.

Fall is in full swing, and Halloween kicks off a busy holiday season. As families prepare for travel, parties, shopping, decorating, baking, and more, it’s important to keep in mind some simple safety precautions. In a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group talks about how HOA members can take this season to protect themselves, their families, and their property.

“It is important to stay alert,” says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. “There are more people out and about, more cars parked in the neighborhoods, and more activities taking place. If something seems suspicious, speak up, and pay attention to what is going on around you.”

If families are traveling, Kuester recommends putting a hold on mail or having a close friend or neighbor collect it while away. Also, put indoor lights on timers so it doesn’t appear as though no one is home. This can help to deter potential thieves. As tempting as it can be, avoiding posting about vacations on social media until after the fact is encouraged as well. Depending on privacy settings, it is a public announcement that no one will be home.

When decorating for the holidays, homeowners should take the time to inspect lights and décor for damage that could be hazardous. Replace burned out light bulbs and buy new cords if old ones are frayed or worn. Keep decorations and cords out of walking paths to prevent trips and falls, and use surge protectors to avoid overloading outlets. When placing lights on Christmas trees, ensure the tree has plenty of water so that it does not dry out and become a fire hazard.

“The holidays are also a great time to double check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace old batteries,” says Kuester. “Families tend to spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking and baking, or sitting around the fire place, so it’s better to be safe. With more activity going on and more people in the home, safety is especially important.”

Neighbors should also look out for one another by being more cautious when driving through the community and ensuring that guests park in approved areas and are not blocking fire hydrants, driveways, or thruways. Protect members and property by avoiding driving under the influence and always having a designated driver if attending a party where alcohol will be present. It is also a polite gesture to let neighbors know about holiday get-togethers ahead of time so they know that there will be visitors, additional cars, and perhaps a little more noise than usual.

The holidays can be a time of wonderful celebrations, family gatherings, and memory making, if everyone does their part to be safe and responsible. Use common sense and leave extra time to avoid rushing. Kuester Management Group supports HOA communities in creating safer, more enjoyable neighborhoods that homeowners are proud to call home.
