The seventh and eighth grade students attending Oak Grove Middle School in the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District will now enjoy the many benefits of learning a second language, as Spanish has been added to the curriculum this school year. Learning another language can give students many new experiences and add to their school experience in a very positive way.
Teaching Spanish is third year Oak Grove teacher Lauren Weintraub. Prior to working at OGMS, Ms. Weintraub taught at a charter school. She is incredibly passionate about teaching Spanish at Oak Grove due to the excellent experiences she had learning Spanish as a second language throughout her own schooling. Ms. Weintraub found that the opportunity she had to learn Spanish was extremely rewarding and also beneficial in her personal and professional life.
Oak Grove Middle School principal, Minerva Salas is optimistic about the program and said, “Although we are in the beginning stages of implementation, we believe that teaching this world language to our students is one of those opportunities that will serve our students well. Students are learning about the Spanish language and also about the cultures that speak Spanish, truly opening their minds to become global thinkers. We believe that by adding Spanish to our curriculum we are preparing our students for greater success in their lives.”
Oak Grove Middle School is proud to offer its seventh and eighth grade students Spanish, as well as offer them many other exciting opportunities to learn and grow.
