Mississauga, ON – IRC Building Sciences Group, a renowned name in rehabilitation of commercial, industrial and multi-residential buildings, has bagged the prestigious the 2017 OBEC Distinction for Design Award from OBEC (Ontario Building Envelope Council), the largest industry group of Building Envelope experts in Canada. The Group won the award for its work on University of Guelph – South Residence, which is undergoing a major seven-year transformation.
Since 2009, the OBEC Award of Distinction for Design has recognized and conferred distinction on individuals, groups and companies that have completed a design for a new or retrofit installation of a significant component of a building envelope. The famed industry award is bestowed annually on companies that demonstrate excellence in building performance improvement through innovative design.
As part of the criteria for winners, the project design is required to be completed and construction in progress in 2016 in the Ontario region. Each design is evaluated based on its durability, cost-efficiency, architectural merit and reduced energy use. IRC Building Sciences Group met all criteria.
Previous winners of this prestigious award include First Canadian Place, Canada’s tallest skyscraper.
The first phase of the University of Guelph project has been completed in August of 2017. As the lead engineer, IRC Building Sciences Group manage all designs with the aim of greatly improving the building’s energy efficiency, durability, and lower the operating and maintenance costs. Those targets have been exceeded.
