IOA Foundation Raises $1,800 for Second Harvest Food Bank’s COVID-19 Relief Efforts

Chairman and CEO of Insurance Office of America Pledges Support to Central Florida Community Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

LONGWOOD, Fla. – June 16, 2020 – To help members of his community who have suffered financial and nutritional setbacks during the coronavirus pandemic, Heath Ritenour, Insurance Office of America (IOA) chairman and CEO has pledged his support to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida through several initiatives that help put food on the table of those in need.

As president of IOA’s charitable arm, the IOA Foundation, Ritenour recognized that school closures due to the coronavirus pandemic were limiting meal options for many children who depended on school lunches as part of their daily nutrition. Ritenour realized that his foundation had the means and responsibility to help the Central Florida community during such an unprecedented time.

“We are determined to help,” Ritenour said. “At IOA, we’re not generous because we’re successful. We’ve become a success because we’ve always done our part for the communities we serve.”

In April, the IOA Foundation partnered with WESH 2 and CW18’s Project CommUNITY Day of Giving to raise one million dollars for Second Harvest Food Bank’s COVID-19 response efforts. To help achieve that goal, the IOA Foundation donated all funds collected through their April Blue Jeans Outreach — a company-wide campaign that allows employees to wear blue jeans to work each Friday in exchange for a small donation toward a local charity.

For the month of April, the IOA Foundation collected $1,800 in donations for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida through Project CommUNITY Day of Giving, which culminated on April 21, 2020, with WESH 2 and CW18 broadcasting live all day from Second Harvest Food Bank before airing a prime-time program, “Feeding The Need: A WESH 2 Project CommUNITY Special.” The special highlighted food distribution centers throughout Central Florida and how Second Harvest Food Bank is helping the community during the pandemic.

IOA has a long-standing relationship supporting Second Harvest Food Bank. As title sponsor of the annual IOA Corporate 5K, IOA collects food and funds ahead of each year’s race for the organization through the IOA Corporate 5K 100 Meal Challenge. Because of the pandemic, this year’s IOA Corporate 5K has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 1, 2020.
