FORT COLLINS, Colo. – March 18, 2026 – Innovative Connections, an organizational development and leadership consulting firm, and The One Percent Safer Foundation, a non-profit organization that specifically supports occupational safety and health, are excited to announce that they have partnered to pilot a new mentoring/coaching programme for safety and health professionals in emerging economies.
The One Percent Safer Foundation is a non-profit organization that specifically supports occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals in three ways: The prevention or relief of poverty, the advancement of education, and the advancement of citizenship and community development. Innovative Connections, led by Dr. Laurie Cure, provides consulting services in strategic planning, organizational development, talent management and leadership, including change management and culture evolution.
The new programme has been developed by One Percent Safer trustees Melih Güneri and Dr. Cure. During the programme’s pilot phases, 14 OSH professionals will be paired with 14 mentees, who were selected from the candidates who received One Percent Safer Bursary memberships to the International Institute of Risk & Safety Management (IIRSM) this year in Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania.
The initiative aims to save lives and reduce workplace harm by strengthening safety and health practices and building the confidence and leadership capabilities of OSH professionals in countries with higher accident and fatality rates.
“If we want to reduce workplace injuries and fatalities around the world, we have to invest in the people leading safety efforts on the ground,” said Dr. Cure. “This programme is a way to connect global experience with emerging leaders who are deeply committed to protecting workers in their communities. Even small shifts in leadership capability and safety practice can translate into lives saved.”
If the pilot programme is successful, Innovative Connections and The One Percent Safer Foundation hope to scale it up in 2026 and beyond.
