Information about Maintenance And Inspection Of Starter

The starter (starter) is also called a motor. It generates power from a DC motor and transmits the power to the flywheel gear ring via a starting gear, which drives the flywheel and crankshaft to rotate to start the engine.

As people all know, the start of the engine requires external support, and the car starter is playing this role. Generally speaking, the starter uses three components to realize the entire starting process. The DC motor introduces the current from the battery and causes the drive gear of the starter to produce mechanical movement; the transmission mechanism meshes the drive gear into the flywheel ring gear, and at the same time it can automatically disconnect after the engine is started; the starter circuit is turned on and off by an electromagnetic switch To control. Among them, the electric motor is the main component inside the starter.

Before the engine runs on its own power, it must be rotated by external force. The process of the engine transitioning from a static state to being able to run on its own by means of external force is called engine starting. Commonly used starting methods for engines include manual starting, auxiliary gasoline engine starting and electric starting. The manual start adopts rope pull or hand crank, which is simple but inconvenient and labor-intensive. It is only suitable for some low-power engines, and is reserved only as a backup method in some cars; auxiliary gasoline engine starting is mainly used for high-power engines. On diesel engines; the electric starting method is easy to operate, quick to start, has the ability to start repeatedly, and can be controlled remotely, so it is widely used by modern cars.

Maintenance of starter:

In the process of starting the engine, the starter must introduce 300~400 Ah of electricity from the battery. Therefore, in order to prevent the battery from over-current or damage, the starting time should not exceed 5s; it is easy to start difficult in winter, and start repeatedly. Each start time should not be too long, and there should be a proper interval between each start.

Starter fault check:

1. The battery has no electricity or the electricity is weak, so the starter can’t rotate or rotate slowly.

2. The starter thread is loose or falling off, and the switch or adsorption switch fails.

3. The brush is worn or the brush surface is not correct, and the spring is weak, so that the rectifier contact is poor.

4. Excitation coil or armature coil is short-circuited or disconnected.

5. The rectifier is fouled and the mica sheet is protruding, causing poor contact between the brush and the rectifier.
