Independent Fashion Brands Were Hard to Find. Then Flagship Was Born

Flagship Celebrates It’s Birthday on Small Business Saturday, Breaking Through the Retail Apocalypse to Support Local Economies

It used to be impossible to find anything different to wear from the next person on the subway. Everyone went to the same stores, shopped the same websites and wore the same junk from a couple of companies with huge marketing budgets. Until Philadelphia-based fashion-tech startup Flagship was born.

Founded in 2013 as the Amazon for independent designers, customers can shop globally while supporting local, small fashion brands that offer unique streetwear designs for men and women.

“We were born on Small Business Saturday, as pirates fighting against the monotony of corporate fashion and for the originality of independent designers,” says Scott Latham, CEO of Flagship and former fashion designer. “Our mission is to rally behind small brands and give back to local culture, economies and communities.”

Flagship carries over 175 independent fashion brands from all over the world on their marketplace and drops 20 new brands a month. King of Prussia, Pa-based Cobble & Hyde offers comfortable footwear using artisan leather. Fusion is inspired by pop culture and music in their New York streetwear. Santa Barbara’s Akomplice create clothing for the soul with inspiration from legendary artists and iconic brands. L.A.’s Wolf & Man offers 100% fair trade for modern menswear. And Weekend Offender, from London, unites European football culture with its premium outerwear and functional polos.

“There are so many talented brands out there that make high quality apparel at super affordable prices, but they don’t usually have the manpower to market themselves. They end up on page 29 of your Google search, and you never discover them,” adds Latham. “There is power in numbers, and the millennial generation is hungry to discover what’s next.”

On Cyber Monday and its birthday week, Flagship is celebrating its community of early adopters with 40% off sitewide. Leading up to Cyber Monday, it will also be offering special dealbusters from its most popular brands.

About Flagship

Steered by the core belief that small batch, limited run, quality products are far superior, Flagship shifts influence away from mainstream monopolies and into the local economies spawning independent apparel brands. It finds the next big thing in fashion and delivers to its community, all while giving the designer a voice to tell their story and consumers a choice. Flagship, formerly called Colabination, is home to over 175 independent designers to connect with early adopters wanting to support craft apparel, leveling the playing field and giving representation to small brands. It surpasses the power of major labels by reinventing relationships with customers and embracing the alternative.
