Huzhou to host Hangzhou 2022 3×3 basketball games

Deqing county in Huzhou was announced as the host site of the 3×3 basketball series of the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 on April 8.

The announcement means that the host sites of all of the 61 disciplines across 40 sports, including e-sports and break dancing, are now settled. Deqing alone will host the 3×3 basketball and volleyball competitions.

Deqing boasts two advantages, according to the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee.

In 2017, the county was recognized a national sports industry base. In 2019, the county was known for its role in hosting the Canoe Polo Asian Cup and the The North Face 100 Ultra Trail Challenge. As of this month, the county has organized 19 editions of 3×3 basketball competitions and attracted over 50 teams.

The city neighbors Hangzhou. It will take less than one hour to reach downtown Hangzhou or Hangzhou International Airport by car or about 10 minutes by high-speed rail. Local transportation authorities said that more projects integrating Deqing to Hangzhou’s metropolis circle will be put into service before the Asian Games.

3×3 basketball was developed from street basketball and is considered to be the world’s most popular urban team sport. Approximately 182 countries and regions participate in global competitions, with the number of players practicing the sport exceeding 430,000.

In 2017, 3×3 was selected as an official Olympic sport for the Tokyo 2020 Games.
