Africa is still counted among the nations having a high level of unemployment. From a recent research, it has been found that more than 70% of the population under the age of 25 is unemployed. If we take the case of Nigeria, the unemployment is still reaching the skies. According to a report from National Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate in Nigeria has reached 12.1%, and if something is not done then, this figure may reach 20% by the end of this year. The report only describes the failure of the government to meet its target. The unemployment rate remains at a constant rate of 10.4% before the end of 2015. The report also included the number of Nigerians who chose not to work has declined from 28.06 million to 27.5 million by the end of March 2016. The youth unemployment rate has lifted from 14.46% in the last quarter of 2015 to 16.39% in the first quarter of 2016.
Steps that can be taken to create hot jobs in Nigeria:
• Supporting Small and Medium Scale Enterprises: Private companies play a significant role in the economic growth in Nigeria. More than 90% of the products manufactured in Nigeria come from the private sector. When the government provides fund and enforce tax relaxation schemes, this eventually results in the unemployment reduction to some extent. This results in empowering the youth working in these companies. With the skills acquired, the workers can set up their own business and employee others to reduce the unemployment level. Both youth and adult workers will get an advantage of these changing government policies.
• Retiring the old: Lots of people, who are too old, are still occupying positions in the offices which they are not supposed to. The retirement age of government and private sectors should be reduced so that more opportunities can be provided to young and enthusiastic workers. This will eventually reduce the unemployment ratio in Nigeria.
• Computer acquisition skills: In this modern era, the computer plays a vital role in the growth of each and every sector. Africa can also do the same to increase the talent and opportunities within their country.
