1. Prepare the Site and Materials
Ground must be firm. Level. Clean. Soft or uneven ground? Use timber sole boards or base plates. Spread the load. Check all components before starting. Standards. Ledgers. Diagonals. Base jacks. Platforms. Inspect for damage. Deformation. Missing parts. Use only galvanized components in good condition. No exceptions.
2. Set the Base Level
Place adjustable base jacks or base plates at grid positions. Use a spirit level or laser level. Get the bases as level as possible. Good leveling here prevents problems higher up. Small errors at the base become big errors at the top.
3. Install the Vertical Standards
Insert first level standards into base jacks. Ringlock standards have rosette nodes. Spaced at 500mm intervals. Make sure rosettes face the right direction. Check the layout plan. Standards should stand upright. Securely seated in the jacks.
4. Connect the Ledgers
Attach ledgers to rosettes. Use the wedge‑lock system. Insert the ledger end into the rosette opening. Drive the wedge with a hammer. Firmly. Until it locks tight. Ledgers form the horizontal framework. They determine bay size. Typical bays: 1.5m to 3.0m. Depends on design load.
5. Add Diagonal Braces
Braces are essential for rigidity. Connect them to rosettes at the right angles. Use wedge locks again. Braces should form a continuous pattern across the scaffold. Resists lateral and longitudinal forces. Skipping braces? Loose braces? Most common beginner mistake. Don’t do it.
6. Install Platforms and Guardrails
Frame is stable. Place steel or timber platforms on ledgers. Ensure platforms are fully supported. Locked in position. Guardrails and mid‑rails at every working level. Toe boards where required. Check local safety regulations.
7. Build Upwards Level by Level
Repeat the process for each lift. Next standards. Connect ledgers and braces. Add platforms and guardrails. Complete one full level before moving higher. Never climb on incomplete or unbraced sections. That’s how accidents happen.
8. Final Inspection Before Use
Check everything before workers go up.
- All wedges fully driven and secure.
- Standards plumb. Bases stable.
- Braces correctly positioned.
- Platforms fully decked. Guardrails in place.
- Load limits understood.

- Wedges only partially driven. That’s not safe.
- Missing diagonal braces.
- Building on uneven ground without proper base support.

- Climbing unfinished sections.
