Today I had the opportunity to sit down with the incredibly successful business owner and entrepreneur Gavin Lira to discuss his successes in building and scaling a successful digital marketing agency “Empathy Marketing” that has had tremendous success in helping transportation companies grow their digital brand and acquire new truck drivers through digital marketing, they offer a variety of solutions to help their clients grow in every aspect possible, let’s get right into it!
Gavin, thanks for sitting down with me today, how are you doing?
I’m doing great Joe. Thanks for having me on today.
What inspired you to create Empathy Digital Marketing?
I was inspired to create Empathy Digital Marketing because I wanted to find a way to make an impact while also making a profit. Empathy Digital Marketing provides both those components for me. It allows me to impact and help grow other people’s businesses while also making money. It’s a dream come true, and I love it.
Can you explain why you’ve been so successful in servicing the transportation niche?
When it comes to servicing the transportation niche, we have been able to get amazing results because of my background in the transportation and digital marketing industry. I performed social media marketing within a transportation company for three months. During this time, I put myself in the shoes of a truck driver by studying how they interact online, seeing what Facebook Ads they best respond to, and going on ride alongs with drivers. This, combined with my background in digital marketing, created the perfect opportunity for me to start my own agency and have a competitive advantage in servicing the transportation niche.
What kinds of results have you been most proud of up to this point?
We are currently working with EVO Transportation & Energy Services, Inc. They are a transportation company that, like many companies, are in dire need of truck drivers. When we started working with EVO, they had problems getting cost-effective leads for qualified truck drivers. After implementing our content creation and paid media packages we were able to generate so many qualified leads that they had to add more members to their recruitment team to keep up with this new influx of leads. Our average cost per lead each month ranges from $2 to $10 per qualified truck driver lead. To see this absolute 180 has been amazing and is something that I am extremely proud of.
How did you get these results?
To simplify it, we study competitors and find better ways to build off of what has been proven to work. We first do exactly that by finding what has already been proven to be effective in the industry. We then test multiple ads. These include ads that are similar to the ones that have been proven to work, as well as testing unique ads that are nothing like your typical ad. We then compare the data from the ads and optimize our client’s campaign for whatever is generating better results. However, when we get good results we don’t just settle there and run that one ad until it doesn’t work anymore. We spend a slice of our budget every month testing new creatives, copy, angles, and offers. This way, when the current ad stops working, we have a new ad that is generating the same or even better results that can be implemented immediately. We also consistently put out engaging content across four social media platforms that truck drivers enjoy. We then pepper in some job opportunity posts on these platforms which generate drivers reaching out to us for job opportunities.
What services do you offer & for what niche?
We offer paid media that includes Facebook, Instagram, Google, and LinkedIn Ads. We also offer content creation/management for social media, consulting, web design and SEO. We get amazing results in the transportation industry, but we have also gotten amazing results in other industries as well. This creates an amazing culture. Our belief in accountability has a lot to do with our culture as well. Having a boss breathing down your back 24/7 sucks. That’s why we structure our company to give our experts room to be creative and innovative. With that being said, Innovation follows passion. When you love what you do, you are always thinking about it and how you can improve it. Consistently improving and innovating is what makes us great. Whenever someone thinks of something that could be done better, I always encourage them to let me know. Being open to new ideas and changes has helped us tremendously as a company.
How have you been able to do this at the age of just 19 years old?
It has been a combination of finding a passion and being willing to think and act differently in how I work and live. I work many long hours because it is honestly fun for me. I don’t drink, party, smoke, or watch hours of Netflix. I realize that I have one life, and I want to triple down on what I’m passionate about.
With that being said, is this your passion?
Honestly, I wouldn’t say that digital marketing is my passion. My passion is being able to impact those around me. Running a digital marketing agency has allowed me to make a huge impact on the clients we work with and the team I work with. Seeing this impact on people’s businesses, which I understand are practically their babies, and the people I get to work with daily fills me with energy and joy. So in essence, that is my passion.
