New Orleans, LA, USA – March 31, 2020 – Karl Talla, hip-hop artist, entrepreneur, and author, likes to think of himself as a self-starter. As a kid, Talla was an immigrant with hopes of living the American dream. Talla says, “I vowed that when I got older, I would do everything in my power to turn those dreams into reality. That’s why I’ve tried my hand at so many things. I just never believed that any dream was too big, or that a goal was unattainable. Through the ups and downs of life, I always remind myself of that.”
Talla released his book, “Once Upon a Time in America: The True Tale of an Immigrant,” on February 23, 2020, to rave reviews. Published by NOMAD Publishing, Films & Recordings, LLC, the autobiographical book tells the story of Talla and his family’s immigration to the United States when he was nine years old. Talla says, “This book is autobiographical, and recounts my family’s story upon moving to this country— from my perspective, of course. So, it starts with us dealing with a language barrier and culture shock early on and follows me into adulthood as I’m finding my way.”
There was another significant reason why Talla wrote his story. He told Dr. Melissa Caudle, media influencer, and author, “I wrote this book because I felt that with the political climate of the country, this story needed to be told. I think because of the media and the MAGA movement, there is a certain stigmathat has become attached to the word ‘immigrant.’ My goal was to give the reader a transparent, first-hand account of what being an immigrant is. Beyond the narrative propelled on the news networks.”
“Every immigrant parent should read this book.” – Constant N.
“I felt as if I was on this journey with him while I was reading. I laughed, I cried, and just wanted to hug him at the end.” – Augustine M.
“It is such a great book. Between the life lessons, the insight into different cultures, and the harsh truths of our country there is so much to unpack. What is even more amazing is the author makes it all fit together so effortlessly.” – Francine B.
