TriCoast Entertainment is excited to bring award-winning Nikolay Lebedev’s Russian action-thriller ‘THE CREW’ – Russia’s best-performing domestic film (2016) + third top-grossing movie in Russia overall – overseas for its premiere U.S. release date in June 2018.
Los Angeles, CA – June 1, 2018 –
Who will survive the monstrous, volcanic eruptions? Find out this summer.
Directed by award winning writer-director, Nikolay Lebedev (‘The Star’, ‘Legend No. 17’), ‘THE CREW’ (aka ‘Flight Crew’) is an action-packed Russian thriller, following a flight crew who risk their lives by their utilizing commercial planes to save those trapped by lava flows from an erupting volcanic island.
The adventure drama of ‘THE CREW’ begins with Alexey Gushchin (Danila Kozlovsky), a pilot recently discharged from Russia’s military service and aircraft school, whom is awarded with a second chance for redemption by applying to Russia’s passenger airplane program alongside his new, stern commander, Leonid Zinchenko (Vladimir Mashkov) and the beautiful co-pilot, Alexandra (Agne Grudyte). But, when Alexey’s new team receives sudden radio notice of an erupting volcano, the trio takes flight across seas to attempt a rescue mission to save the island inhabitants’ from a lava-flowing nightmare, which burns their homes and fills the air above them with fire and ashes.
If the team can courageously put their differences aside to allow their minds to work together, they will be able to survive and save those from the dangerous and hazardous rescue mission and fulfill their selfless roles as pilot captains, standing as the world’s most unsung heroes – the ones depended on everyday for safety and bravery within Mother nature’s unforeseen skies.
More than a tale about self-sacrifice and bravery, ‘THE CREW’ shows the severe, unforeseen power of nature and its disastrous effects worldwide, most recently experienced after Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano suddenly erupted, pouring molten lava into the Pacific Ocean as shooting volcanic ash clouds above the Big Island, leaving Hawaii’s residents to evacuate while watching their lives burn along with the town. As the most active volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island, the Mount Kilauea eruption has forced more than 2,000 residents to evacuate since May 3 and “almost two-dozen fissures have opened up since then, leaking out slow-moving lava and spewing dangerous sulphur dioxide,” reported Daily Express’ Matthew Kirkham, adding that the eruption “shot ash and smoke 30,000 feet into the air.”

“Between the flowing lava and toxic gas that are forcing evacuations, the Kilauea eruption feels like a never-ending emergency for the people who live in the Puna district on Hawaii’s big island,” reported CNN’s Stephanie Elam. She reported hazardous conditions of jagged, cracked roads with opening fissures and crevasses created by the moving lava underground. “It is impossible to get close to those cracks without a gas mask. The metallic taste of the sulphur dioxide lingers and irritates the eyes and throat. The fissures often rumble as they are erupting, the pounding heard over a mile away — caused by that dangerous mix of molten rock and deadly volcanic gases being forced from deep within the earth. The blasts at times sound like a jet taking off; at other times, they are short and powerful like a canon,” continued Elam.
Stacy Welch, who moved to Hawaii’s Leilani Estates 11 months ago with her 19-year-old daughter, Madison Welch, told CNN’s Elam of their sudden and frightening evacuation to a shelter near Pahoa, where they are currently still living. Describing the effects of Kilauea volcano eruption, Madison said, “We just don’t know what’s going on and it is so unpredictable […]. It’s not like a hurricane … just exploding and then being done […]. It’s not just something that’s boom, done. This disaster just happened. It is still happening,” reported Elam. But, in the midst of the fiery flames and ash-filled skies, Madison said, “Everyone here helps each other,” as Elam noted how Madison’s community have provided her with several dresses to wear to her new employment. Her last two jobs have been put on pause due to the eruption.

Similar to Madison’s story, ‘THE CREW’ evokes a strong, binding community and brave individuals to support each other through their time of tragedy. By joining together in a time of such despair, all parties are able to put their differences aside to support each other in a time of ultimate survival.
As the second-ever Russian film shot using a 3D IMAX camera, ‘THE CREW’ used two planes – the Tupolev Tu-204SM (RA-64151 board) and the decommissioned Tupolev Tu-154 of Kosmos Airlines (RA-85796 board) – which resulted in top-notch special effects, with spectacular VFX graphics and GFI stunts, elevating the action-adventure, resulting in a thrill-of-a-lifetime. ‘THE CREW’ was awarded seven prestigious awards at the 2017 APKIT Awards, became Russia’s best-performing homegrown film of 2016 and the third top-grossing movie in Russia overall. Now, TriCoast Entertainment will depart with ‘THE CREW’ and bring it overseas to the U.S. this summer for VOD platforms on June 25th.
