Hangzhou foreign trade takes a turn for the better

The imports and exports of Hangzhou, capital of East China’s Zhejiang province, in the first three quarters of the year amounted to 434.89 billion yuan ($64.8 billion), a year-on-year increase of 7.3 percent, according to data released by Qianjiang Customs on Oct 26.

Hangzhou’s foreign trade volume in the first three quarters of the year accounted for 17.8 percent of the province’s total. Specifically, Hangzhou’s exports amounted to 267.14 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.5 percent. The city’s imports totaled 167.75 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.1 percent.

In September, Hangzhou’s foreign trade volume was 57.53 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.6 percent. Specifically, exports totaled 32.36 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.7 percent, while imports amounted to 25.17 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 36.5 percent.

In the third quarter of the year, Hangzhou’s exports totaled 102.15 billion yuan, the first time that the city’s exports have exceeded 100 billion yuan in a quarter.

Statistics revealed that Hangzhou saw a rapid increase in the export of high-tech products for the first three quarters of the year.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people chose to stay at home. As a result, there was a boom in exported home appliances, with the exports totaling 4.25 billion yuan.

The total foreign trade volume of private companies in China Hangzhou in the first three quarters of the year was registered at 247.24 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 69.6 percent.
