Glendale Unified School District is Expanding Transitional Kindergarten for All Eligible Students

WHAT: Glendale Unified School District is expanding its Transitional Kindergarten program. The program will now be offered to students turning five years old between September 2022 and February 2023. Glendale Unified School District is seeking to encourage enrollment and educate parents on the importance of transitional kindergarten and the benefits that it can have on a child’s education.

WHY:

  • Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program designed to help bridge the gap between preschool and kindergarten.

  • Students can develop stronger literacy and math skills and have time to adjust to a more structured school environment.

  • When children go into traditional kindergarten after varying preschool educations, it can be difficult to get all students on the same page before they start first grade. Transitional Kindergarten helps to ensure that no child is left behind.
