Gesture Recognition Global Market – Overview

Gesture recognition refer to the ability of the machines to correctly predict the human gestures which can be used to convey the information to the computer for controlling the device. Gesture recognition allows humans to communicate with the computers which helps reducing the need of various components such as mouse, buttons and keys. Gesture recognition uses 2D, 3D cameras, ultrasonic screens and infrared sensors to read human body -motions usually hand signals which are converted into a response that is given to the computer for controlling the devices. Combining gesture recognition with other user interface technologies such as face recognition and voice command, enhance user experience by improving the usability of the device. The key drivers for the growth of Gesture Recognition Market is the enhanced user experience and lower installation cost. The increasing implementation of gesture recognition technology in various electronic devices such as desktop computers, laptops and smartphones are fueling the growth of the market. Gesture recognition has applications in various industries such as automotive, healthcare, media & entertainment, telecom and among others. This technology is mostly used in media & entertainment industry, especially in gaming. Gaming consoles such as Xbox uses Microsoft Kinect a motion gaming system without a controller. The user is the controller. Xbox console uses motion sensors which tracks the entire body of the user and uses it as a controller. The user performs an action which gets reflected in the game, enhancing the user experience as user perceives that they are the part of the game.

The gesture recognition also benefiting other sectors. For instance, gesture recognition is used in the sign-language recognition software which helps physically disable peoples to connect with and control their computers. There is much scope for gesture recognition in the medical sector, where surgery may be carried out by robots which recognize the hand gestures of the surgeon, reducing the surgery time and increasing the accuracy of the surgery.
