After 30 Years, Lost 90s Recordings Resurface as New Multi-Genre Album “Midnight Drive” by Counselor George Mentz

Colorado Springs, CO – April 20, 2026 – In a remarkable full-circle moment bridging decades of creativity and innovation, former DJ and internationally recognized lawyer, Commissioner Dr. George Mentz has rediscovered a long-lost collection of original songwriting tapes from the 1990s—many of which were believed to be lost following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Now, more than 30 years after their original creation, Mentz has revived and re-engineered these works into over 25 newly produced tracks featured on his latest album, Midnight Drive. The project spans a wide range of genres, including Rock, Blues, Country, Alternative, Hip Hop, Punk Rock, Reggae, Electronic, and Dance.

“These recordings and tapes were part of my early creative life—raw, authentic music and full of energy and poetic lyrics,” said Mentz. “To find the original tracks, recordings, stems, written lyrics, and demos after all these years, especially after Katrina, felt like recovering a piece of my soul.”

Leveraging modern production tools, digital mastering techniques, and advanced audio engineering platforms, Mentz has transformed his original recordings into polished, contemporary releases—blending classic songwriting with modern rock, punk, funk, and West Coast-inspired sound design.

“With today’s tools, software, and technology, it is never too late to create, produce, and share your music with the world,” Mentz added. “What once required a full studio and massive budgets can now be engineered with precision and creativity from almost anywhere.”

The album Midnight Drive reflects a lifetime of musical influence, incorporating elements of Funk, Soul, Jazz, R&B, Blues, Rock, Punk Rock, and New Wave. The result is a genre-crossing body of work that emphasizes storytelling, rhythm, and artistic reinvention. While I produced 30 songs this year, I still have another 50 rough originals to work on in the near future. It is my dream to continue as a songwriter for top musicians, international bands and artists.
