Four Lowcountry Rice Culture Project Nominees Receive the President’s Volunteer Lifetime Award in Washington, D.C.

Earlier today, Brigadier General Terrence A. Adams, Dr. Kimberly Jeffries Leonard, Dr. Prudence Pollard, and Dr. Calvin B. Rock were recognized for their lifelong commitments to build a strong nation through volunteer service.

Charleston, South Carolina – The Lowcountry Rice Culture Project (LCRCP) – a Charleston-based clearinghouse and partnership builder for activities that explore, reveal, and reclaim the shared cultural inheritance of the Southeastern Lowcountry rice industry as a basis for promoting community development and advancing the cause of human dignity – was pleased to nominate Brigadier General Terrence A. Adams, Dr. Kimberly Jeffries Leonard, Dr. Prudence Pollard, and Dr. Calvin B. Rock to receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

As an official certifying organization for AmeriCorps and the Office of the President to nominate candidates for the award, the LCRCP sought to commend the four candidates for their lifelong commitment aimed at building a strong nation through volunteer service. Each of the four honorees has long worked to empower their respective communities through volunteerism, and after a thorough review process, the Office of the President decided to recognize them for their decades of volunteerism.

During a ceremony at the Army and Navy Club in Washington D.C on March 20, the Executive Director of the LCRCP, Dr. Kim Cliett Long, presented the awards to the honorees. “The Lowcountry Rice Culture Project is honored to have played a part in recommending these four highly esteemed individuals for the president’s recognition of their volunteer service,” she said. “Their collective commitment and sincerity to public service are highly commendable.”
