Florin High School in Elk Grove Unified School District celebrate Veterans every year in the week before Veterans Day to say “Thank you” to those who have served.

Florin High School’s Associated Student Body (ASB) continued the school’s tradition of honoring veterans and those who have served the country. Beginning the Monday before Veterans Day, the ASB put up a grand display of U.S. Flags along the front fence of Florin’s campus to honor both veterans and active duty military personnel.

Each year the school honors veterans and military personnel with activities, including writing thank you cards. In preparation for this day, Florin High School placed a request on Facebook in September asking students and alumni to send pictures of those who have served in the military. A display was made in the commons area at the school and remained up for the month of November.

This year, the students also wrote cards to thank a Florin Panther Alumni who is currently serving in the Middle East — Chan Saelee, Warrant Officer One, U.S. Army (FHA c/o 2006). In addition, the school had a Red, White, & Blue Day where students were encouraged to either wear red, white and blue or camouflage and take pictures in front of the Veterans Day backdrop that was put up at lunch.

Tiffany Vaughn, Florin High School Activities Director, said, “The Panther community is proud to honor these heroes for their dedication and selfless service to our great nation.” FHS plans to continue this tradition yearly to promote pride in the school, community and country.
