Tracie VanHook and the team at Fit To The Core recently extended “The Movement,” a neighborhood community walking group initiative to East Palo Alto, California. The move is in line with the goal of the non-profit to “create a world where everyone can age well, regardless of their age, underlying health conditions, ethnicity, background or economic status.”
“Starting the walking groups has allowed the community to get out and move again. All ages and fitness levels are encouraged to come join The Movement. Not only are we getting stronger individually but we are getting stronger as a community!” – Tracie VanHook.
The global health and fitness market has evolved and witnessed tremendous growth over the years due to the increasing demand for different types of wellness solutions. However, studies have revealed that a good number of health conditions, especially for older adults, can be prevented by simple exercises, such as walking. Unfortunately, there are not too many initiatives designed to encourage people to be active and fit, which is where Fit To The Core is looking to make a difference through neighborhood community walking groups.
The organization currently has one group in the city of Menlo Park, CA in the Belle Haven Neighborhood/community and recently started the East Palo Alto group, as it remains dedicated to improving the health and fitness of aging adults living in under resourced communities. “The Movement” is part of the strategy adopted to help reduce the impact and incidence of illnesses such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes, ultimately supporting healthy living and healthy aging.
