Fired Techie Slams Corporate Diversity & Its Future Prospects

Author of Viral Internal Company Memo Speaks Publicly in Tell-all Interview

Stansberry Investor Hour co-hosts Porter Stansberry and Buck Sexton interviewed fired Google (GOOGL) employee James Damore. The two had a deep discussion on the tech behemoth’s discriminatory hiring practices, failed mission statements, and why he was officially fired for “advancing harmful stereotypes.”

In August, Damore wrote an internal memo recommending the corporation to strengthen its hiring standards without regard to race, color, gender or creed, citing high-level research that showed Google’s mandates were hurting their supposed beneficiaries. Titled Google’s Ideological Echo Chamber, the document quickly went viral.

“I was really just targeting diversity programs,” Damore said. “I wanted an internal discussion within Google. I set up multiple meetings with HR and code of conduct to ask them if this was legal, and they would always just pass the buck to someone else. I’ve been hearing story after story of other companies doing the same thing.”

Damore questioned Google’s approach to workplace diversity and argued that the tech giant’s left-leaning bias does not tolerate alternative views.

“These diversity programs increase tension among workers,” Damore said. “People don’t want to feel like they’re just minority or diversity hires. It’s a lose-lose for everyone.”

Stansberry, who owns one of the largest private and independent investment publishing companies in the world, chimed in with his own views on the matter.

“I think if you own a private business, you should be able to do what you please,” Stansberry said. “The Constitution gives us the right to free assembly, which means we can hang out with people we choose. If I only want to hire men or women, that should be my prerogative. Society has the choice of choosing whether to support that. By the way, we are in a very competitive space, like most firms. We hire anyone who can get the job done better than the next person.”

Google released surveys to its employees asking what they thought of Damore’s treatise before they fired him. Damore is now using the survey results in a lawsuit again the tech giant.

“Half the people agreed with my document,” Damore said. “Only about 40% of the people thought I should’ve been fired. It’s a vocal minority of people who think that speech is violence. That’s been amplified by social media and the media in general.”
