Feaster Charter named Apple Distinguished School for innovation

Last year, Mae L. Feaster Charter School was honored as an Apple Distinguished School for its innovative use of iPad devices in K-8 grade classrooms and leadership in technology integration.

Apple Distinguished Schools model how a technology-rich environment has a positive impact on the academic performance of individual students. By allowing students to explore virtual tools and challenge their creativity, Feaster Charter aims to create an innovative environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

At Feaster Charter, students get to create presentations using KeyNote, produce movies using iMovie, make digital media advertisements using Canva and Photoshop, compose music using GarageBand, and collaborate with classmates using the Notes App. These activities combine technology with Science, English, Mathematics, and Social Studies to help students obtain the skills they’ll need to succeed in a highly interconnected digital world.

To receive the prestigious title, Feaster Charter showcased how it used technology to advance student learning and classroom instruction in a fun and strategic manner that benefits all children. In addition, the school presented documented results of academic accomplishments and class activities that integrated technology into daily curriculum.

Feaster Charter supports a 1:1 program that ensures each student has access to technology, which they can use to create, learn, and explore. All teachers are specially trained to use a variety of devices and taught how to alter lesson to make the most effective use of online sources, virtual tools, and numerous programs that provide students with learning opportunities that are not possible with traditional paper and pencil.
