Diane M. Goodman, a member of the Family Divorce Solutions of San Fernando Valley (FDS), is now a judge in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Judge Goodman was one of several court appointments announced by Governor Gavin Newsom. The governor’s announcement says, “She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Susan L. Lopez-Giss.”
“This is such an incredible achievement,” said Darlene Wanger, President of the FDS. “While we are certainly sad to see her leave FDS as a practicing attorney, we know she will do great things as a judge. Over the years, Diane’s contributions to the FDS were outstanding. Gov. Newsom recognized these qualities in Diane when he placed her on the bench.”
FDS is a collaboration of attorneys, mental health providers and financial counselors who work on collaborative divorce, mediation and peaceful divorce. The association provides continuing education programs for members and collaborative divorce information workshops for the public.
FDS salutes Gov. Newsom’s decision, saying it is a good thing for the people of LA County and the state.
In addition to her work as an attorney, Ms. Goodman obtained a MA and Ph.D. in Depth Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Some of her professional accomplishments are a member of the California State Bar Family Law Executive Committee from 2010 to 2013. She is the Past Chair of the Adoption Committee of the California State Bar Family Law Section Executive Committee. Ms. Goodman is the Past President of the Academy of California Adoption Lawyers and its subsidiary, the Academy of California Family Formation Lawyers. She served as a commissioner on the Los Angeles City Commission on the Status of Women from 1980 – 1990. Ms. Goodman is also a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and San Fernando Valley Bar Association.
She has lectured at colleges, spoken at many conferences and been a guest on many news programs like Larry King and Anderson Cooper 360. She has many professional and civic awards for her contributions to the legal field and her community.
“When you see all Diane has accomplished, you can see Gov. Newsom made the right choice,” Ms. Wanger said.
For her part, Ms. Goodman said she looks forward to serving the public as a judge.
“I appreciate the faith Gov. Newsom has in me. I appreciate the support of the people I will serve. I very much thank everyone with the FDS over the years.” she said.
