FACING RACE, EMBRACING EQUITY ANNOUNCES THEIR 4TH COMMUNITY SUMMIT ON RACE

LEARNING FROM THE PAST. BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE.

Rochester, N.Y. – Facing Race Embracing Equity announces its 4th Annual Community Summiton Race on Saturday, April 29, 2017, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm at the Wilson Foundation Academy located at 200 Genesee St. in Rochester. This year, Jalyn Cox-Cooper, a 16-year old honor roll student at Brockport High School will be kicking off the Summit with her written piece entitled, “Encyclopedia”.

The Summit is free and open to the public. Part of FR=EE’s mission is to recognize and recommit the Greater Rochester Communities’ efforts and strategic initiatives toward the elimination of policies, practices, and systems that maintain race-based social inequities in education, employment, health care, housing, and civil and criminal justice. FR=EE has championed the cause of racial equity in those areas since its establishment in 2012.

Attendance at this year’s Summit will be beneficial to all segments of the community, including higher education faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and students as well as business leaders and employees. The Summit agenda will include a list of facilitated workshops by experienced subject-matter experts who will examine race and injustice from multiple perspectives. Attendees will walk away with a deeper understanding of key social issues, as well as added confidence and empowerment in their ability to address them.

From a conversation on race and poverty to the identifying ways to build trust within the community and with law enforcement, and finding ways to get youth off the streets and into jobs, the Summit will offer a variety of discussion opportunities. There will be 14 breakout sessions as part of the Summit. The agenda include a list of facilitated workshops by experienced subject-matter experts who will examine race and injustice from multiple perspectives. Attendees will walk away with a deeper understanding of key social issues, as well as added confidence and empowerment in their ability to address them
