Explore and understand how religions shape society through Timothy Glover’s book ‘The Community of Believers’

TRACY CITY, Tenn. – November 18, 2021 – To understand how religion has shaped America, and why religion or a congregation is important to a society and its people, we look to its early days. “The Community of Believers,” penned by author Timothy Glover, writes a compelling subject about identifying the people of God and questioning whether the word “church” correctly describes them.  Societal religions vary throughout the world, with each church denomination having its own doctrine or creed and inviting people from communities to join them.

“The Community of Believers” explores the translation of the Greek word “Ekklesia”, and discusses the religious landscape in America that is filled with different churches. The book is an amazing eye-opener as it takes readers back to the first days of the church. Digging into scripture, Glover shows how the New Testament church—devoid of buildings, professional clergy, and religious freedom—was able to transform the hostile places into which it was born and set in motion a process that changed the world forever.  Glover’s writings turn all preconceived notions that you may have about what a church should be on its head. He presents the biblical-theological foundations of the church, examining the issues of its formation and community, making comparisons, as well as a look at hot-button issues that affect modern-day Christians.

Glover challenges his readers saying: “Our purpose is to challenge the reader to review their own traditions in light of the Biblical description. Definitions are critical in any study and this one requires an understanding of terms before we are able to make any true comparisons. But, more importantly, we are very interested in pointing out how the Greek word “ekklesia” is used in the contexts of Scripture. It is believed that the interaction of early Christians looked very different that they do today. Did they form themselves into an organization that owns property with hours of operation posted on it? Does this arrangement that hires men and women to perform certain tasks, such as preaching in their pulpits, describe the work of the early church? If not, where does that practice originate?”

Glover offers a roadmap back to the origins of becoming the “ekklesia” Jesus called his church to be. In a world filled with chaos, the book possesses the hope that people so desperately need—and we can become the revolutionary, transformational, life-giving voice Jesus called us to be. This is a book that any church-goer or church leader, elder, or group should read. It makes you look differently at so many things.

About the Author

The author lives in Tennessee where he meets with close friends in Christ and in whose lives he share.  He said, “Our society makes it extremely difficult to expedite the fellowship that is introduced in this book.  So, I still struggle with implementation.  I do not have all the answers for which I continue to search but my greatest challenge is daily living that which I believe to be God’s will.  After all, with God’s help, I can only change myself.”

Glover has preached in Illinois, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas over a period of a little over thirty years.   He acquired an M.A. in Religious Studies where he developed a desire to put his thoughts in writing.

Glover’s world of memory started on a small farm in Texas with a large family of brothers.  From an early age, his dear mother created in him a desire to preach the gospel.  It was a genuine plan to fulfill since he can remember.  He preached his first twelve-minute sermon one Wednesday night when he was nine years old on the topic, “How should we Treat our Enemies?”   That led him to many opportunities to preach through his High School years. After graduating, he attended Florida College.  It was wonderful learning experience for him and where he met some of his dearest friends.

The following quote is the most revealing about the early influence of his life.  He explains:

“Before my marriage and the birth of my three sons, I preached in Illinois and Wisconsin where I began to develop questions for which I had no answers.  One particular day was the most memorable turning event of my life.  An older preacher for whom I had great respect was available for questioning.  I thought surely, he would give me the needed correction I needed.  So, I placed myself in a position for such correction and shared my deepest concerns for what I called the “pastor system” in the church.  When I finished, he agreed and added, “When you find the answer, inform me and I’ll follow you.”  In other words, he recognized the problems associated with the system, had no ready solution and would gladly listen if one was offered.  I am confident that this book would not have offered a solution he would accept, but I have no way of knowing.  Even among some of my friends, many would agree with many thoughts expressed in the book, but would be unwilling to sacrifice the required changes to accomplish it.  That day was an eye opener for me and I have been a journey that has led me to these conclusions.  However, as always, I remain open to reinvestigate my findings and correct any flaw.  My prayer is that you will do the same.”

Glover lives a full live in the small town where he lives.  He directs a local food bank and volunteers at a local dog shelter where he serves as a board member.  He also has a radio program each week in his town and continues to write.  His next book will be published in 2022 as a sequel to his first.
