Elk Grove Unified Students Win Awards from National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) for Animation Projects

Elk Grove, CA – May 26, 2021 – Two studentsfrom Franklin High School won awards for their animation projects from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). Shaina Ocampo won the Excellence Award for “Performance Anxiety” in the Fiction – Short Form category, and Chase Burell-Agnew won the Merit Award for “Purrtect Your Pipes” in the Public Service Announcement category. Ocampo’s project will move forward to a national competition between all 19 chapters of NATAS.

Franklin High School was also one of eight schools to receive a Pillar of Excellence Award. 

Entries were submitted by high schools with media programs in the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter region, Visalia to the Oregon border including Reno, Nevada and Hawaii, for work done during the 2020-21 school year. A total of 124 entries were received from 14 high schools. Ocampo and Burrell-Agnew are the only two students in Sacramento County to win the award. 

NATAS representatives plan to present pillars and certificates to the Franklin High students in the near future.
