Elk Grove Unified Expands in-Person Learning to 4-Days a Week

All Students Will Be Able to Attend In-Person at School Tuesdays through Fridays

Superintendent Chris Hoffman shared, “Our amazing team of more than 6,500 employees stepped forward and methodically tackled each barrier that stood in our way from reopening our schools for in-person learning. We are excited that families will have three learning options to best meet their needs as we continue to safely and equitably serve our 63,152 students.” Elk Grove Unified’s learning options include in-person learning 4-days per week, in-person learning 2-days per week and full distance learning.

Elk Grove Unified maintains 67 school site facilities with approximately 2,700 classrooms. Hoffman noted, “When it comes to making any modification to a classroom, we don’t just do that once, we do it 2,700 times.” The District’s COVID-19 Safety Plan covers 5.37 million square feet of space and each campus designed a flow of traffic plan to allow for safe passage of an average of 800 students per day on an elementary site; 1,000 students per day for a middle school; and 2,300 students per day for a high school. Additionally, this year alone, Elk Grove Unified invested more than $30 million on technology to support high quality teaching and learning.

Elk Grove Unified continues to focus on student and staff safety, high quality instruction and learning continuity. When asked what remains on the horizon, Hoffman noted, “Top of mind are graduations, keeping schools open and preparing for the summer and the next school year.” Each school will be communicating specific timeframes and detailed information for parents.
