Elk Grove Charter School Student Makes History as Youngest Player to Sign with Sacramento Republic Football Club

Elk Grove Charter School attendee Rafael Jauregui made history as the youngest professional to sign on to the Sacramento Republic Football Club. At just 15 years old, Rafael became the youngest in the club’s history to appear in a match and his talents continue to shine with his signing. Born and bred in Sacramento, Rafael grew up playing soccer with his family in the area and now gets to show his skills to the community on a high level.

Rafael is the second student to come out of Elk Grove Charter School and go on to sign with the Republic team. The school’s relationship with the organization and the flexibility the school provides for extended travel and practice time are what initially drew Rafael to attend. Elk Grove Charter School does everything in its power to help students not only achieve their goals but exceed them.

Rafael is ready to take on the new challenges and excitement of signing with the team, saying, “Five years ago I would have never thought I would be in this situation right now, but the academy has given me this opportunity to do this, and I’m just going to take advantage of it. For me, it literally means everything…Doing it the place I was born and doing what I love, it’s amazing.”

Elk Grove Charter School is thrilled to see their student’s success and is excited to see what else Rafael will accomplish on and off the field. To learn more about EGCS and the programs and resources they provide to students, visit the EGCS website!
