Ecuadorian International Athlete Cristian Patino to Run a Marathon in Support for Clean Water Charity Hope Spring Water

[Herefordshire, UK], [September 27, 2018] – Ecuadorian International athlete Cristian Patiño will run a marathon to support UK-based clean water charity, Hope Spring Water. Cristian  Patiño will be running 26 miles for clean water to help with the social and environmental issues surrounding developing countries all over the world, particularly those in Africa.

Cristian is particularly motivated to run to alleviate water poverty. He said, “Running for a charity that alleviates water poverty in Nigeria is not just motivating, but an honor. I  will be running every single mile,  thinking that I am contributing in a little way, to alleviate one of the  most difficult problems facing humanity:  water poverty.”

Water poverty is a prevalent problem in many countries around the world. Cristian is deeply acquainted with the challenges that accompany the lack of access to clean water and adequate sanitation as someone with a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development and working professionally in environmental data management.

For this reason, Cristian will be running for the 26.2-mile challenge Marathon de Guayaquil. It’s a challenging run that will happen in Cristian’s home country Ecuador to support and raise awareness for the country’s water poverty crisis. This event is in partnership with Hope Spring Water, a charity working with different institutions around the globe to provide clean water in communities needing them.

Many anticipate the upcoming Marathon de Guayaquil, especially as Cristian’s participation in the marathon helps Hope Spring to provide closer access to clean water. Water supply and sanitation are two of the biggest problems in Nigeria, but over the past years, the country has been doing great. Today, more people in Nigeria have access to clean water than ever before.

However, the fight for clean, safe water is yet to be over. Even to this day, access to a clean water supply is a huge challenge for both the rural and urban Africans. Women and children are the most affected by the global water crisis. In rural Africa, an average woman walks 6 km every day to carry forty pounds of water, statistics show.

With Cristian’s participation in the Marathon de Guayaquil, there are over 300 million people in sub-Saharan Africa who will have improved reliable sources of clean, safe water. Reliable sources of water can help families to become healthier, and the children to grow better nourished. It will also help the family to improve their income.

Cristian can help the over 340, 000 children who die every year because of diseases brought by unsafe water, insufficient sanitation, and poor hygiene. To their supporters, Hope Spring says, “Thank you to all the people, groups and organizations that have supported Hope Spring, without your help we would not be able to fund projects that will make such a difference to the lives of communities in Africa.”
