East County Transitional Living Center Announces Date of One-Day-Build

Thanks to generous donors and the building community, East County Transitional Living Center will start Phase Two of Building Hope for the Homeless. Two dormitories will house over 100 single men and women, opening up forty rooms for homeless families with children.
ECTLC ULTIMATE BUILDING CHALLENGE! TWO 3000 SQ. FT. BUILDINGS DRYWALL READY IN 12 HOURS! THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS CHILDREN WILL GROW FROM 180 TO 250! PEOPLE SAY IT CAN’T BE DONE. WE SAY IT CAN!

EL CAJON, CA – On Saturday, July 10, 2021, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., East County Transitional Living Center (ECTLC) will start and finish construction of the exteriors of two dormitory style buildings. Contractors contribute their time, talent, and treasure, and hard – working tradesmen donate their time to make a difference and build hope for the homeless. The entire project is financed with private donations – NO GOVERNMENT FUNDS. 

WHEN: Saturday, July 10, 2021 ● 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

7:00 a.m. Contractors and workers join in prayer then race to their buildings. DRYWALL READY AT 7:00 p.m.! Inspectors on site. (Times approximate) 

WHERE: East County Transitional Living Center ● 1527 East Main St., El Cajon, CA 92021

NOTE: Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, this event is not open to the public. 

WHO: Contractors, construction workers, Harold Brown, ECTLC President & CEO, Greg Brown, ECTLC Board Member and Building Hope for the Homeless Chair, ECTLC Board Members, and ECTLC program members and graduates. (All available for interviews.) 

WHAT: On Saturday, July 10, 2021, contractors and workers will begin Phase Two – the Ultimate Building Challenge – with a one-of-a-kind building schedule. Promptly at 7:00 a.m., contractors and workers join in prayer, then, divided into two teams, A and B, race to their buildings. 7:20 a.m. – first – floor walls built. 8:50 a.m. – second – floor walls framed. 11:45 a.m. – roofs sheeted. 5:00 p.m. – windows installed, electrical wiring, and interior rough plumbing finished. 7:00 p.m. – DRYWALL READY! From start to finish, the two buildings will be constructed in 12 HOURS! Completion of the interiors of the buildings will be scheduled soon. 

WHY: To expand the capacity of ECTLC and provide more housing for 40 homeless families with children. They will join the safe and welcoming ECTLC community.
