Dr. Roger Washington, MD to Mentor Students Through The International Medical Graduates Program

Sleep therapist and experienced physician, Roger Washington, introduces the Externship for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to help medical students become successful in the U.S.

Roger W. Washington, M.D has again demonstrated his commitment to the development of the field of medicine as the civil surgeon and instructor recently introduced the International Medical Graduate program, an initiative to train international students looking to practice in the United States. It offers students the opportunity to learn from the pioneer, with over 40 years of experience as a doctor in the USA and a mentor for IMGs since 2005.

Practicing medicine is about communication just as much as it is about treating patients.” – Dr. Washington.

The United States has one of the best healthcare systems in the world, a phenomenon that continues to attract millions of doctors across the globe. However, working as a doctor in the US can be sometimes demanding especially for international graduates, as it requires more than having a degree. Consequently, Dr. Roger aims to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with as many students as possible through the externship programs, helping them to dig deeper into the cultural and structural nuances that will lead to a successful career.

The externship program is available in two modes – Remote Externship and Hands-on Externship. It will include 16 sessions per 4-week rotation via Zoom from 8:30 am to 12:00pm (PST), with Q&A at the end of each lecture, and a compelling letter of recommendation to be issued to every student at the completion of the program.

Dr. Roger Washington has plenty of experience working with international medical students, especially from India, Pakistan, Mainland China, Taiwan, and various other Asian countries. He is able to bridge the cultural gap by acting as a mentor for international students, training them to wield the confidence, mindset, attitude, communication style, and emotional intelligence required to succeed in the profession.

Dr. Washington offers extensive coaching, including writing an effective personal statement and improving communication and interview skills to secure a US residency program. In addition to clinical training, IMGs will be familiarized with the culture of the US healthcare system. He will also explain in detail the elements of charting, orders, requisitions, prescriptions, referrals, patient’s expectations, physician’s responsibilities, and the insurance system.

The sleep therapist also recently released a book titled Lack of Sufficient Sleep Matters. The book, which is currently available on Amazon, looks at the root cause of insomnia and its effects on general wellbeing as well as how to treat the condition.
