NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Feb 5, 2021 – Dr. Priestley’s American Small Batch Fizzy Water, the premium seltzer named for the man who discovered carbonation in 1767 and, in the process, quenched the thirst of millions with his delightful mix of water and bubbles over the ensuing 254 years, is now making its way to store shelves and beverage cases in a new distribution agreement with Mr. Checkout’s Direct Store Delivery Distributors. The initial four flavors of Dr. Priestley’s Fizzy Water, which had previously been available for purchase only online, are now making their way within walking distance to millions of thirsty consumers.
Packaged in its distinctive black 12-ounce cans and eight-packs that look and feel more like an artisanal craft brew than a washed-out pastel soda container, Dr. Priestley’s initially comes in four flavors cultivated with combinations that are at once exotic and alluring. A yellow stripe across the can is Meyer Lemon Ginger, green is Cucumber Mint, pink is Rosemary Grapefruit, and blue is Original Virgin, each a refreshing taste on the traditional seltzer, all equally welcome to be consumed straight from the cold can, over ice, or mixed with your favorite spirit.
“Joseph Priestley was a Founding Father and a Renaissance Man in the truest sense of those words, a confidant of Ben Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson who experimented, invented, thought, taught and shared his wisdom with enlightened people on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean,” said Michael Rovner and Josh King, the Founding Fathers of Dr. Priestley’s American Small Batch Fizzy Water LLC. “Dr. Priestley’s greatest discovery is oxygen itself, but an accidental offshoot of his work is the beverage that millions of consumers enjoy at every hour of the day, and we are proud to put his name on a brand that will bring the beverage to new heights,” Rovner and King added.
Dr. Joseph Priestley was born in Yorkshire, England in 1733 and died in Northumberland, Pennsylvania in 1804. Hailed as one of the world’s greatest thinkers and inventors, he was a theologian, teacher, and writer with over 150 works to his name. The inventor of carbonation and discoverer of oxygen, along the way, working in his laboratory in Leeds, England in 1767, he accidently discovered seltzer, earning him the nickname “the father of the soft drink,” a moniker celebrated today in the small batch fizzy water that bears his name.
Rovner and King, Manhattan-based business people who enjoy a good yarn that mixes mixology and genuine revolutionary history, happened upon Dr. Priestley’s story in The Invention of Air (2009), by bestselling author Steven Johnson, and promptly created Priestley’s namesake brew, drawn from the crisp waters of the Great Flats Aquifer in New York’s Mohawk River Valley. Through a painstaking process of taste making that resulted in their four initial flavors, the proprietors packaged their thirst-quenching elixir in their distinctive black cans, encasing it, with tongues firmly in cheek, with the happy assurance to consumers: “Every Bubble Guaranteed.”
After an initial testing period in which the four flavors of Dr. Priestley’s American Small Batch Fizzy Water was only available through online sales, the company has entered into a distribution agreement with Mr. Checkout’s Direct Store Delivery Distributors, now bringing the refreshing taste to stores within a stone’s throw of millions of consumers. More flavors and brand extensions are on the drawing board as Dr. Priestley and Mr. Checkout begins their thirst-quenching, cocktail-mixing rendezvous with destiny.
