Queens, New York Jan. 24, 2017– Dr. Bernard Fialkoff, a top NYC Dental Implant Surgeon, and Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Musician Ricky Byrd kicked off 2017 with a synthetic drugs educational campaign. It began with a synthetic drugs training seminar for local law enforcement officers, Dr. Fialkoff, Periodontist and Dental Implant Surgeon of New York City, and President and Founding Sponsor of Foundation for A Drug Free World of The Americas Chapter, presenting along with musical star Ricky Byrd. Byrd, a former original member of Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, is the founder of Clean Getaway Foundation and Musical Director of the Clean Getaway All-Star Band.
According to the New York Times, “In 2015, New York City had more than 6000 emergency room visits involving K2.” After hearing countless stories of overdose deaths and following participation in the gun violence Town Hall in Brownsville with Mayor Bill de Blasio following the 2016 synthetic drug epidemic in which, over the course of three days, more than 130 people presented to NYC emergency rooms with a synthetic drugs overdose, Dr. Fialkoff began a K2 educational campaign as part of an overall drug education program that he has sponsored since 2006. On Monday, both Dr. Fialkoff and Ricky Byrd educated officers on what K2 and balthsalts really are, and how to teach kids to steer clear of these in 2017.
Dr. Fialkoff said, “It is important to share the knowledge we have gained as adults with our children. They are the future generation and can be helped to avoid problems that we went through in our lives. As a doctor, one of our roles is to help our community, and that’s why I support the Drug Free World initiatives.” Along with being Cuban born and valedictorian of his dental class of Stony Brook University, Dr. Fialkoff also utilizes his Spanish speaking skills to disseminate this drug-ed program overseas, forging national partnerships in El Salvador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Haiti.
Ricky Byrd stated “It is my mission to help carry the torch of change. I have finally found a way to combine my music {…} into a message of hope and it’s been nothing short of a blessing.” Byrd is a frequent drug education speaker, hoping to “share the message of hope, provide addiction resources, education and awareness.” He states, “I am proud to be part of the solution.”
In New York City, Dr. Fialkoff has trained more than 4000 law enforcement officers, and sponsored more than 1200 free drug education and prevention events since his drug education chapter’s inception in 2006. Through his presentations and through training other medical professionals, Dr. Fialkoff’s outreach has safeguarded hundreds of thousands of youth from the ravages of drugs. Dr. Fialkoff’s mission is to safeguard our community, our families and our youth through his sponsorship of the anti-drug education program.
