In response to tumultuous news reports highlighting tension between NYC residents and law enforcement, Dr. Bernard Fialkoff, Periodontist and Dental Implant Surgeon of New York City, and President and Founding Sponsor of Foundation for A Drug Free World of The Americas Chapter, teamed up with Antonio Hendrickson, Founder and Executive Director of Lead by Example / Reverse the Trend to hold a kick-off Basketball Tournament. The basketball game, which will continue every other Saturday into the summer of 2017, helps to promote positive relationships between local Bronx teens and the NYPD.
By sponsoring, Dr. Fialkoff provided informational booths filled with drug education booklets at the game, combining the message of being drug-free with being crime-free. More than 100 local youth and teens came out to play. David Tidman, the lead presenter of Dr. Fialkoff’s Drug Free World chapter, helped cut the red ribbon with Antonio Hendrickson and an NYPD Community Affairs representative, announcing the kick-off of the basketball tournament, and a year filled with games promoting peace and unity.
Dr. Fialkoff said, “It is important to share the knowledge we have gained as adults with our children. They are the future generation and can be helped to avoid problems that we went through in our lives. As a doctor, one of our roles is to help our community, and that’s why I support the Drug Free World initiatives.” Joe Daly, a Video Production Manager, donated his time to produce a promotional video for the tournament that will be used to obtain further sponsorship for upcoming games.

Antonio Hendrickson said, “When you have a relationship with someone and it’s a positive relationship then that relationship can build into other things. What we want to do is let NYPD, Drug Free World and Lead by Example become mentors.” Hendrickson created Lead By Example / Reverse The Trend to help prepare young people in disadvantaged communities for adulthood through empowerment, and enhancing communication and social skills.
A Bronx resident who watched the game commented, “This shows that our children can work together, talk together and play together. It’s a great day because it’s drug free. No one is out here drinking, no smoking is going on; we are out here having a great time.”
In New York City, Dr. Fialkoff has trained more than 4000 law enforcement officers, and sponsored more than 1200 free drug education and prevention events. Through his presentations and through training other medical professionals, Dr. Fialkoff’s outreach has safeguarded hundreds of thousands of youth from the ravages of drugs. Dr. Fialkoff’s mission is to improve and make safe our communities, our families and our youth through his sponsorship of the anti-drug education program.
