The Dodgers and Red Sox have not been matched up together in the World Series since the 1916 World Series when the Dodgers were based in Brooklyn and were known as the Brooklyn Robins. The Red Sox defeated the Brooklyn Robins (later known as the Dodgers) in five games.
Interestingly the current managers, Dave Roberts from the Dodgers and Alex Cora from the Red Sox were teammates on the Dodgers in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Although these MLB managers did not play together on the Red Sox, both managers won a World Series Championship with the Boston Red Sox. Dave Roberts was with the Red Sox in 2004 and Alex Cora was with the team in 2007.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had a slow start to the season (16-26) along with 9 losses in an 11 game stretch during August. However, this beloved legendary team made it to the MLB playoffs for the sixth straight year when they won over the Rockies in Game 163 of the 2018 season. For the second year in a row, the team broke the record for most home runs in a season by a Dodger team. The Dodgers entered the 2018 MLB Playoffs with an impressive 92–71 as a second seed. They beat the Atlanta Braves in four games in the NLDS and the Milwaukee Brewers in an exciting seven game NLCS. The Dodgers now have the distinction of being the first team in Major League Baseball to win Game 7 of the NLCS on the road since the Cardinals over a decade ago in 2006. This is the Dodgers’ second appearance at the World Series in 30 years, and the fifth overall time where the Dodgers earned a spot in back-to-back World Series. Two of these occasions came in Brooklyn in 1952–1953 and 1955–1956, while the other two came in Los Angeles in 1965–1966 and 1977–1978. The Dodgers’ will make their 20th World Series appearance in 2018.
