Dr. Abend has been practicing for over twenty-five years and is currently serving at Consultants in Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine in Warren, New Jersey. Furthermore, he maintains his hospital privileges at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway, New Jersey (Medical Director of Inpatient and Outpatient Services), Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey.Dr. Abend is also on staff at Sanare Center for Integrative Medicine in Bernardsville, New Jersey, and acts as a Clinical Associate Professor at Kessler Institute, Newark Medical School, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Clinical Associate Professor at Rutgers Medical School Departments of Medicine and Family Medicine. He is also a Diplomate of the Association of Academic Physiatrists.
Dr. Abend attended Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Jersey and graduated in 1987 with his doctor degree of osteopathic medicine. He then went to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency and was Chief Resident. Dr. Abend is fellowship trained in sports medicine in the Department of Family Medicine at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and holds board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as board certification in family medicine from the American Board of Family Medicine. A fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, he was honored with multiple awards, including Jefferson Award for Medicine (autism), Citizen of the Year (Warren, New Jersey), Evelyn Aronow Dolan Citizen’s Award, Massachusetts General World Renowned Doctor (2015), Governor of NJ’s Highest Award for the Promotion of Recreation for the Disabled, and 2015 Dr. Margaret L. Bauman Award for Excellence. Dr. Abend credits his success to being a visionary and dedicates his spare time to rugby and autism work.
