Dino Decking Supplies ITV’s ‘Love Your Garden’ with Alan Titchmarsh

Donated decking completes ‘bucket list’ dream garden for teenager with terminal cancer

Wigan-based Dino Decking donated eco-friendly composite decking supplies to ITV’s ‘Love Your Garden’ programme enabling Alan Titchmarsh to create a dream garden for a teenager with terminal cancer. Episode 1 of Season 10 was filmed in Hull and aired on Tuesday 25/02/20 at 8 pm on ITV1.

Alan and the Love Your Garden team designed a wildlife-friendly garden for 15-year-old Harrison Torr who has terminal cancer. Harrison, known as Harri, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2018 and had a leg amputated following his diagnosis. He was inspired to create a bucket list which included a dream garden to share with his mother, Erica. Love Your Garden designed a low maintenance garden for Harri including a large decked dining area, seating area and connecting pathways that were built using supplies donated by Dino Decking.

A Love Your Garden spokesman says, “We wanted to give Erica and Harri a large decked patio area with enough room to comfortably seat all their family and link the front part of the garden with the back and, thanks to Dino Decking, we were able to do just that. Their kind donation of non-slip composite decking boards meant that we could create decked areas at either end of the garden as well as a safe, stylish walkway to link the two areas.”

Safer, stronger and easier to maintain than the family’s original timber decking, the eco-friendly composite deck boards are made from recycled plastic and recycled timber, and will not rot, warp, split, crack or splinter. The non-slip, mould resistant surface is safer than timber for families and pets, and the low maintenance boards won’t require annual sanding, treating, painting or repairing to stay in pristine condition.

Alan chose to use Dino Decking deck boards in a classic Savanna colour, which can be secured into position with an invisible fastening system to produce a flawless finish with no visible fixings. The deck boards were cut and shaped by the team using standard carpentry tools and installed with the natural-looking wood grain on display rather than the ridged side of the dual-textured boards.

Composite decking is an increasingly popular choice for garden designers as it is environmentally friendly, extremely durable and lasts between 20 and 30 years, which is 15 to 25 years longer than the timber alternative. Dino decking composite boards are constructed from 55% recycled wood, 40% HDPE and 5% additives, and are available in a range of classic and modern colours. All Dino Decking composite deck boards are supplied with a 10-year limited warranty.

Matthew King, Dino Decking’s Managing Director says, “We were excited to be able to help the Love Your Garden team create this beautiful garden for Harri and his mum. Alan and his team have created an extraordinary outdoor space for them to enjoy, and it felt great to be able to provide a strong, safe and durable deck for this family.”
