Dr. Benjamin Wang, also known as Dr. Ben, dentist from Centerport Dental, is participating in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s (AACDCF) Give Back a Smile (GBAS) program, which aims at offering hope to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. Dr. Ben will be joining the team of volunteer dentists who have dedicated their time to restore the damaged smiles of adult survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.

In the U.S. and Canada, statistics indicate that over 5 million people are affected by domestic violence each year. Other statistics show that each day, over 570 people are sexually abused in America. The possibility of knowing someone that has been affected by sexual and domestic abuse is high, which is one reason why Dr. Ben is offering hope to those who’ve been severely affected.
GBAS volunteer dentists like Dr. Ben provide dental restoration treatment for the eligible adults. This treatment is accessible after the survivor goes through a successful application process that involves counseling, meeting an advocate of domestic violence, such as a social worker or a therapist.
Dr. Ben’s philosophy of “dentistry as a profession and people as the focus” is the impetus behind his participation in the program. The fact that the GBAS program reaches out to people who are vulnerable and in need of help moved Dr. Ben to be part of those who will make a positive difference in the lives of the participants.
“I love what I do and I am passionate about helping people realize their potential and dreams. Dentistry is a vehicle that helps me deliver my passion. GBAS has given me the opportunity to do both by touching the lives of those who have gone through heart-breaking experiences, and I look forward to doing exactly that,” said Dr. Ben.
Dr. Ben completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in 2003, He has completed several hundreds of hours in cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry at several locations including giDE academy, the prestigious Kois Center, and Scottsdale Center for Dentistry.
As part of his passion for community service, Dr. Ben also organizes many events throughout the year to help the people in his local area. One of his efforts includes a Food Drive campaign that benefits the local food bank at Portland Rescue Mission and at the same time provides complimentary dental care to those who participate in the program.
