21 Apr, 2016 – 7 Year old Kaylee Vasquez was diagnosed 10 months ago with DIPG, a highly aggressive and difficult to treat brain tumor. The diagnosis is fatal but the family is praying for a miracle!
Kaylee’s Mom Kimberly expressed how she would love to have a Garman Sculpture Works piece as a memory of her family. Sandra Pineda, Kimberly’s childhood friend said, “After seeing her post on
Facebook, my sister and I decided to give it to her. I thought it would be a beautiful, lasting memory.”
“Sandra contacted us and told us what she wanted to do for the Vasquez family and explained the situation but it could not have prepare us for when we met them. When the Vasquez family showed up for their session and we brought Kaylee into our studio, in her wheelchair, Kimberly explained her daughter’s condition to us and our hearts sank. She showed us some video of her daughter just 9 months ago, playing and laughing with her friends. This is the absolute worst thing anyone could ever go through,” Artist Sean Garman said about the day they met. “She is no longer able to talk or walk, yet Kaylee was still smiling and trying to laugh during this experience with her family. The strength of that little girl and that whole family is nothing less than heroic!!”
Facing mounting medical expenses beyond what insurance will pay, the Vazquez Family started a GoFundMe.com campaign. Garman said, “I am hopeful that more people will donate to the family’s Go
Fund Me campaign and show moral support on the Facebook page. This family really needs help!”
