The CrossFit Games is a test of fitness open to anyone over the age of 14. Each week, a new workout is released to test athletes against one another in the ultimate test of core strength, endurance, and athletic competence. After each of the five workouts is announced, competitors are given four days to perform it in an affiliated gym, and to then submit their scores.

The 16.5 workout consists of 21 thrusters, then 21 burpees. Men lift 95 lb and women use 65 lb; these weights vary for certain categories, including Masters and Teens. Additional CrossFit competitors featured in the 16.5 event streamed on Pocket WOD include Aaron Hanna, Jeff Evans, Benjamin Williams, Dillon Bailey, Brittani Blackburn, Monique Williams, and Vince LaLonde.

Ramirez, 41, admits that recovery becomes more difficult the older an athlete gets. In an interview after beating 17-year-old Nicholas Paladino in the Open Workout 16.3 in Jacksonville Florida, Ramirez talked about the importance of protein, good carbohydrates, Waxy Maize, and whey protein after a workout. “The biggest thing for older guys post workout is Deer Antler. Guys, look it up – it’s like 40% more recovery, it’s what I use,” asserted Ramirez. High-quality Deer Antler nutritional products for fitness competitors and athletes are available on Pocket WOD, an app designed to keep athletes on track with workouts and challenges to prove fitness.
