CRA to Issue Increased GST Payment on July 4, 2025 – Support Extended to Newcomers and Low-Income Canadians

Toronto, Canada – July 28, 2025 – The (CRA) Canada Revenue Agency has announced that the next Goods and Services Tax (GST) payment will be disbursed on July 4, 2025, with an increase in benefit amounts. This tax-free quarterly payment is designed to help low- and moderate-income Canadians offset the burden of GST/HST, especially amid rising costs of living.

The enhanced CRA tax return benefit will reach millions of eligible recipients, including international students, temporary residents, work permit holders, and refugees who qualify as Canadian residents for tax purposes.

Increased Payment, Increased Relief

This non-taxable CRA payment offers welcome relief as Canadians navigate inflation and economic uncertainty. Though modest, the July 4 payment reflects the government’s annual recalibration based on 2024 income tax returns.

Updated maximum annual GST/HST credit amounts for the 2025–2026 cycle include:

  • $533 for single individuals
  • $698 for married or common-law couples
  • $184 per child under 19

These increased payments are automatically calculated and distributed based on a recipient’s adjusted family net income (AFNI) and family status.

Eligibility & Inclusion: Who Can Receive the GST Credit?

To qualify for the July 4 CRA GST payment, individuals must:

  • Be Canadian residents for tax purposes
  • Be 19 years or older, or meet conditions if under 19 (e.g., married, or a parent)
  • Have filed a 2024 CRA tax return

Even newcomers like international students and work permit holders are eligible — provided they apply manually during their first year using CRA Form RC151 (or RC66CH for those with children).

CRA Payment Dates for 2025–2026

CRA will issue GST/HST payments quarterly on the following dates:

  • July 4, 2025
  • October 3, 2025
  • January 5, 2026
  • April 3, 2026

Recipients enrolled in direct deposit can expect funds within 10 business days of the payment date.

What If You Don’t Receive Your Payment?

If your CRA payment does not arrive by July 14, you are advised to contact the CRA directly. Delays can sometimes result from outdated personal information or unfiled tax returns.

Applying for the GST/HST Credit

Most Canadians do not need to apply separately. If you’ve submitted your 2024 tax return, the CRA will:

  • Assess your eligibility
  • Calculate your payment based on family income and structure
  • Send the funds automatically via direct deposit or cheque

Newcomers, however, must manually apply in their first year to receive this benefit and begin automatic enrollment in future years.

Additional CRA Benefits Coming in July

Alongside the GST/HST credit, CRA will issue several other benefits in July 2025:

  • Canada Workers Benefit Advance – July 11
  • Canada Child Benefit (CCB) – July 20
  • Ontario Trillium Benefit – June 10

These payments collectively aim to provide comprehensive support to Canadians facing economic challenges.

Financial Boost in a Tough Economy

In a time of economic pressure, this CRA payment is more than just a refund, it’s a meaningful financial lifeline for households across Canada. By maximizing these credits, Canadians especially newcomers, students, and low-income families can offset rising costs and strengthen their financial stability.

Stay informed, file your CRA tax return early, and keep your contact details up to date to ensure timely payments.
