Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is another rare autoimmune disease, consisting of characteristic features of several diseases such as lupus, polymyositis or dermatomyositis, scleroderma, and rheumatoid arthritis. According to the National Center for Advancing Translational Medicines, currently there is no cure available for this condition but certain medications such as corticosteroids, immunosuppresive drugs, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) help in the management of symptoms. It is also stated that MCTD is more frequent in females with a male to female ratio of 1:3, and the typical age of onset of MCTD is between 15-25 years.
