October 19, 2016: (Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica), The Sloth Institute (TSI), located in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, is celebrating International Sloth Day (which takes place October 20th) the entire month of October by having young people around the world take part in TSI’s Elementary School Sloth Challenge. Throughout the month of October, twenty-seven elementary school classrooms will receive free weekly lessons and activities to teach their students all about sloths, meanwhile inspiring kindness to animals and the environment. Students are then encouraged to come up with an anti-pet trade campaign to submit by October 31st. The classroom with the winning campaign will receive a 15-minute Skype call with the Co-Founder and Sloth Director of TSI and a sloth.
In conjunction with International Sloth Day, TSI launched its new brand/logo along with the TSI Sloth Pledge, asking citizens around the world to take the anti-pet trade pledge. “We hope all wildlife enthusiasts, young and old, from around the world will sign the TSI Sloth Pledge”, said Seda Sejud, President/Co-Founder of TSI. “With TripAdvisor’s recent announcement that they will no longer sell tickets to attractions where tourists come into contact with wild animals or endangered species, we hope our pledge will inspire many to treat wildlife with the respect they deserve”.
TSI’s new logo, inspired by Monster who was a beloved sloth by many throughout the world, represents the organization’s dedication to the preservation and conservation of the sloth species and the environment. “In addition to the pledge, we are so excited to launch our new logo in memory of Monster on International Sloth Day”, said Sam Trull, Co-founder and Sloth Director at TSI. “Our new logo commemorates not only her but all sloths deserving a second chance at life in the rainforest.”
“Our new logo and tagline emphasizes the importance of each tree and how without a tree there can be no forest for the sloths to survive”, said Sejud. “To save the sloths, one tree makes all the difference in the world, and so Save a Sloth, Save a Tree, Save a Rainforest, become words we live by to protect the species”.
The Sloth Institute Costa Rica recently completed phase one of the build of its WiSH (Wild Sloth Health) lab. The organization raised more than $6,300 through its GoFundMe campaign. The lab will be named Monster’s WiSH Lab to in memory of the sloth who was loved by fans around the world.
