Though Obvious State celebrates women writers 12 months a year, Women’s History Month is an opportunity to spotlight the immense literary contributions women writers have made.
Obvious State’s original art prints are a visual ode to visionary women, and a unique way of drawing attention to their work. Each illustration is a visual pun and an artful tribute to the writer and themes in the work.
Also available are tote bags, mugs, books and paper goods featuring art inspired by the wise and witty lines of writers like Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, Sappho, Charlotte Bronte, Zora Neale Hurston, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Ida B. Wells and more.
Additionally, Obvious State recently launched “SHE” — a popular Kickstarter campaign which funded in under 24 hours. The campaign stars a keepsake boxed set of 100 literary art postcards each featuring original illustrations inspired by witty one-liners, poignant excerpts and keen insights from literature’s most remarkable and talented women writers. The collection is an expansion of their Women Writers collection.
“From Sappho’s ancient call-to-action, ‘become a voice,’ to Virginia Woolf’s call for intellectual freedom in A Room of One’s Own, these foundational writers had a remarkable impact on future generations, and made us question, think, and laugh.” – says Nichole Robertson, Cofounder.
The finished box set, which will be available in summer 2019, includes two each of 50 postcards–one to keep, one to send. Each is printed on premium, lush paper and encased in a keepsake box that will look beautiful on a bookshelf or coffee table.
