During the Spring, the city of Mazatlán is bustling with an array of activities and cultural events that would please any guest. From now until July 14, Mazatlán will see an influx of tourists who will not only be enjoying the beautiful beaches of the Pacific Ocean and the gorgeous weather but also be partaking in a wide variety of cultural events. The largest event during the Spring season is Semana Santa or Easter Week. From March 25-April 2, the city comes alive in celebration of the Easter holiday. Along with beach parties, Semana Santa also features local artisans, street food vendors selling items that Catholics who are observing Lent can indulge in such as fried fish, plantains, and candy made from coconut and tamarind. On Easter Sunday, the largest mass held in Mazatlán takes place at the Basílica de la Inmaculada Concepción, which is the main religious building in the city.
After Semana Santa, the party doesn’t stop in Mazatlán. International Motorcycle Week from April 4-8 will draw an estimated 20,000 bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts to the city to display their bikes and attend over 50 events ranging from custom-modified bike building competitions to tattoo contests.
The end of April will see the return of the International Jose Limon Dance Festival which will be held from April 23-29. Established in 1986, the Jose Limon Dance Festival’s goal is to spread awareness about the legacy and artistry of Jose Limon who is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in the development of modern dance. Dancers from all over Central and South America will celebrate the life of Jose Limon and the contributions he has made to the dance community with a variety of modern dance performances.
