Cajon Valley School District’s Success with World of Work Program Featured on Digital Education News Site

Cajon Valley Union School District and their leadership with the World of Work program was featured on The Learning Counsel journal, showcasing the transformation Superintendent David Miyashiro envisioned for the District and the whole of education. The feature noted that Superintendent Miyashiro and his associates concentrated on the idea that kids who are self-aware, have self-esteem, and have experiences to improve social skills are successful in school and life.

Based on those ideas, the Cajon Valley Union School District’s vision came to life: happy kids, engaged in healthy relationships, on a path to gainful employment. The World of Work initiative was started because of this vision to end the lack of career preparation in the current educational framework and curriculum, and to provide hope for all students in the public school system by helping them develop a vision for their future possible selves.

The program that Superintendent Miyashiro, along with Ed Hidalgo and others, built from the idea of introducing students to career possibilities at a young age while involving the most widely used and researched occupational theory called RIASEC  (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional) evolved into the World of Work. The World of Work program has been deployed in the Cajon Valley Union School District for the last two years, involving local businesses and the community in the efforts.

The World of Work network involves company partners like Nepris, Eddywhere, and Myers-Briggs Company, along with local businesses to bring career based curriculum directly into the classroom, providing students with chances to explore careers, simulate experiences in those careers, meet professionals and experts in many fields, and practice everything they’ve learned. The Meet a Pro virtual chats are a highlight of the World of Work program, and take students behind the scenes of careers they may have never imagined, but that might be the perfect fit for their personal strengths, interests, and values.

Word has spread about CVUSD and their implementation of the World of Work program! Cajon Valley has been in contact with other districts who want to bring early career exposure to their campuses and the District is providing support and help to those districts. Superintendent  Miyashiro says “Educational Technology is the vehicle that allows us to take our kids anywhere without limitation,” and with the World of Work, students at Cajon Valley Union School District are experiencing limitless education. CVUSD is proud to be in the World of Work network and to be recognized by the Learning Counsel for their endeavors in innovating education.
