Cactus Medical, Health, and Technology Academy, a middle school for 6th to 8th graders in Palmdale, is giving students an education that builds a foundation towards numerous career options. With Pathway classes in a variety of technical fields, Cactus Coyotes, even at their young age, have the amazing chance to begin experimenting with what it is actually like in certain professions.
With many jobs in the market currently focused on medical, health, and technology fields, the courses offered at Cactus are very practical for everyday life. In a health pathway class, students learn about the different body systems, how the body is working as a unit, and the digestive system. Going beyond just facts, the classes goes into how the biomechanics of the body works, taking engineering into the human body. One teacher said her students “enjoy the dissections, getting that hands on experience, cutting open frogs or hearts and seeing what the inside of their bodies really look like and how they work.”
Another Pathway course offered at Cactus Medical, Health, and Technology Academy is CERT, a disaster preparedness class. This class is designed to help students that are considering or curious about a future in different medical fields. This class provides hands on experiences and real life scenarios that will help students determine if pursuing a career in that field is right for them.
With Project Lead the Way as their partner, Cactus also offers Pathway classes like Computer Science, Visual Programming, Video Game Design, and Robot Programming. Project Lead the Way is a non-profit dedicated to teaming up with schools to provide the best possible curriculum for students to learn STEM. Project Lead the Way is highly focused on giving students an education that directly relates to the real world they will enter into as working adults.
Students at Cactus love their school because they have opportunities their peers at other schools don’t to explore careers and paths that can help them to be successful in their future. Check out more about Cactus Medical, Health, and Technology Academy here.
