The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is delighted to announce the unveiling of their brand-new skate ramps, generously donated and renovated by the Jaffe Family Foundation. This exciting addition to the club’s facilities was celebrated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 13, 2023, marking a significant milestone for the local community.
Distinguished guests, including Bob Whalen, the Mayor Pro Tem of Laguna Beach, and Mike Munzing, the Mayor Pro Tem of Aliso Viejo, joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the ongoing playground renovations, along with generous donors like Karen Jaffe and Roger Hickey, the owner of Fresh Park. With these new ramps, Boys & Girls Club members can now practice their skills in a safe and well-equipped environment.
Expressing her gratitude, Pamela Estes, the CEO of Boys and Girls of Laguna Beach had this to say, “We’re so grateful to be able to offer young people the opportunity to learn and grow physically, socially, and mentally through our new portable skatepark.”
The playground renovations include a new play structure, basketball court, outdoor learning laboratory, and other upgraded equipment. The action sports ramps mark a milestone in the playground plans, which have been further funded by a $400,000 grant from the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach has always been committed to providing a nurturing and educational environment for the community’s youth.
The Jaffe Family Foundation has a long-standing tradition of supporting initiatives that promote the well-being and development of young people. Their generous donation of the skate ramps to the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is a testament to their dedication to community enrichment.
“We are all really excited to be able to support this skatepark for all of you to have,” said Karen Jaffe, a Club supporter and donor. “More than helping our brain, balance, bonding, friendships and cognitive thinking, it’s also just fun.”
Roger Hickey added that “The only thing I wanted to do was give the gift of playing action sports to kids. This is your way to play. Just have fun”
The Boys & Girls Club thanks the Jaffe Family Foundation for their contribution, which impacts the lives of young people in Laguna Beach and surrounding communities. The new skate ramps provide an opportunity for young people to learn, play and, most importantly, have fun.
