Black Resistance has been set as a theme for the Black History Month 2023

The theme of Black History Month 2023 is Black Resistance and shows African-Americans’ achievements in Atlanta.

To question the status quo requires bravery and conviction. The Black battle for fundamental human rights requires a variety of tactics throughout the years, including patient discussions, peaceful sit-ins and marches, boycotts, Black Power, and outspoken activists demanding action.

In association with the APEX Museum, Great Explorations Tours Atlanta (GET) will conduct a celebration of “Black Resistance” in honor of Black History Month on February 25, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the APEX Museum, 135 Auburn Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30303. The keynote speaker during the event is Mr. Dan Moore, Sr., filmmaker and the founder of Apex Museum. Dan was highly inspired by the life of Dr. Benjamin Mays.

The Association for the Study of African American Life & History announced, “The legacy and significance of black resistance tactics cannot be overstated because they have been a paradigm for all other social movements in the nation. They overcame inertia and made substantial progress. Therefore, a spokesperson for Great Exploration stated, “we will recognize those Atlanta residents who have made outstanding achievements in this resistance leaders like Senator Raphael Warnock and Stacy Abrams”.

This celebration honors individuals, both well-known and less well-known. It is both an educational experience and a celebration of the accomplishments of African Americans in Atlanta. The celebration of “Black Resistance” is the topic for this year. That resistance dates back to when Africans seized power over the Amistad, a slave ship, before it reached the USA. The US justice system was challenged and resisted by them.

The program includes “Coffee Talk,” a conversation with Black people who experienced and lived through segregation firsthand and how some of them made efforts to end it. They will discuss its long-lasting effects on them and the culture, no matter how minor or significant.

The “Sweet Auburn” neighborhood, which houses the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, will be the subject of walking tours offered at the event. Auburn Avenue was the center of Black affluence and enterprise from the 1930s through the 1970s. It is referred to as the “Riches Negro Street in the World” by Forbes magazine in 1946.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on EventBrite
