A Goose, a Pigeon, and a Journey That Defies Every Expectation

MARIETTA, GA – In a literary world often crowded with tales of ordinary adventure, Henry and Anthony arrive as something far rarer. The story blends the feel of fiction with the tone of a modern fable, grounded in the instinct, loyalty, and survival of the natural world.

This is the story of Henry, a young Canada goose born from a single egg that his parents believed carried a special destiny. It is also the story of Anthony, a homing pigeon who lost his way and found something far greater. Together, with a duck named Gilbert, a pair of aging geese named Andy and Leroy, and three extraordinary Tula geese from Russia, they form a wide-ranging gaggle bound not by blood but by something more enduring: loyalty.

What begins on the campus of a small university in southern Illinois unfolds across continents. From the Platte River of Nebraska to the mountains of Colorado. From a quiet Midwestern town to a distant desert battlefield where a squad of Marines finds itself pinned down by insurgents.

Along the way, Henry loses a foot to a closing door. A reclusive cobbler, a Korean War veteran who has not smiled in decades, helps restore his mobility. Henry discovers that the Great Goose he was taught to trust as a gosling has been guiding him toward a purpose far greater than he ever imagined.

The novel moves with the rhythm of a classic adventure, yet it carries the weight of something deeper. When a rancher’s daughter lies unconscious after a car accident, it is Henry and Anthony who find a way to wake her. When illegal hunters threaten the peace of the Platte River, it is the gaggle that brings them to justice.

And when a squad of Marines finds itself in grave danger overseas, it is Henry and Anthony who turn the tide. Not with weapons, but with the fierce courage that lives in creatures too often dismissed by the world.

But Henry and Anthony is not merely a story of valor. It is a meditation on what it means to be lost and found. To carry a friend when they cannot fly. To honor the bonds that form when no one else believes a bond is possible.

The cobbler, haunted for fifty years by the memories of combat, finds in Henry a companion who finally teaches him to smile again. The Marines, sworn to secrecy about the geese who saved their lives, honor them in a way that can never be spoken publicly. Some debts cannot be repaid with words.

Written by H. Lynn Beck, a writer who has spent a lifetime observing the natural world, the novel invites readers into a universe where geese have names. Where homing pigeons carry the memory of their mothers across oceans. And where the smallest among us can be the fiercest.

This is a book for anyone who has ever felt lost and wondered if something was guiding them home. It is for those who understand that sometimes the most heroic acts are performed by those with feathers instead of medals. Henry and Anthony is available now on Amazon in paperback and eBook formats.
